Zeno Power, in collaboration with partners including Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin, has secured a significant $7.5 million contract from the Department of Defense. The contract is part of the Pentagon’s Operational Energy Innovation Office and the Office of Naval Research initiative and aims to develop a radioisotope power system capable of providing distributed power on the seabed.
This project, known as Distributed Energy Provided Throughout the Seas (DEPTHS), is set to be a game-changer for undersea applications. The system’s decentralization of energy generation and distribution will facilitate long-endurance seafloor sensor systems and charging stations for autonomous undersea vehicles, paving the way for crucial advancements in maritime technology.
With their track record of innovation, Zeno Power is poised to lead the charge in delivering operational systems for both government and commercial use by 2025, providing solutions for national security and scientific missions in challenging maritime environments. This contract marks yet another milestone for Zeno Power as they continue to push the boundaries of what radioisotope power systems can achieve
