EasyJet is set to launch its longest route from England next year, connecting London Gatwick Airport to the sun-soaked island of Sal in Cape Verde. Starting March 31, 2024, this six-hour journey spans 2,332 nautical miles, surpassing the airline’s current longest English route, Manchester to Hurghada in Egypt.
The new route is a milestone for easyJet, marking its first service to sub-Saharan Africa. Using fuel-efficient A320neo aircraft, the carrier will operate three return flights per week to Sal, a destination known for its year-round warm climate and stunning beaches.
EasyJet UK Country Manager Ali Gayward expressed pride in this significant expansion: “This includes a milestone route for easyJet to beautiful Cape Verde, our first-ever sub-Saharan service.” The addition highlights the airline’s commitment to providing travelers with more diverse and affordable travel options.
This announcement is part of a broader initiative, with easyJet unveiling 26 new summer routes for 2024, 21 of which will serve UK travelers. The move follows Wizz Air’s recent declaration of its own ambitious plans to launch the UK’s first budget flights to Saudi Arabia next year, further expanding choices for long-haul budget travelers.
For those seeking sun, culture, and adventure, the new Gatwick-Sal route offers an exciting gateway to explore Cape Verde’s unique charm, all while enjoying easyJet’s affordability and convenience.
